Dapper McDonald Classic

The Dapper McDonald Classic is a basketball tournament that helps to spread awareness of ALS, raise donations for Dapper's House, and rally the community around that common goal. For 7 years, The Classic has brought together the Girls and Boys Varsity teams from Fox Lane, Harrison, Woodlands, and Port Chester.

The first round is hosted by two of the schools, which can vary year over year.  Super Saturday sees all eight teams participating in the consolation and championship games hosted at one school location.  Super Saturday also shines a light on people with ALS (pALS) when Steve Saling (pictured above) speaks to the participants and spectators at the Classic.  The community becomes involved through special events like raffles, the half court shot and even Irish Dancing!

History

E. Richard "Dapper" McDonald was a husband and father of five, whose children attended Fox Lane High School and played multiple sports. Dapper worked with teachers and faculty from Harrison, Port Chester, and Woodlands Schools through his business. Over time, he became friendly with people from all four of these communities.  When Dapper attended a game to see one of his kids play for Fox Lane against Harrison, Port Chester or Woodlands, he could be seen on both sides of the bleachers. The Classic is meant to bring these four communities together in the same way that Dapper did.
